I have an older 2011 iMac that still runs great, but I'm losing the ability to do some things with outdated browsers and programs. I downloaded the El Capitan installer from Apple, but after install it just gets stuck in a boot loop and keeps restarting. I read it has something to do with an expired certificate and I need to set back the clock or something, but I don't know much about any of this--any help would be appreciated.

What you could do is try to boot from an external startup disk, and then from there reinstall El Capitan using a newer downloaded installer.
