MP 1,1-5,1 Upgrading 5.1 with those specs (+GTX 780) to Mojave?

Hi,

Currently running a pimped 5,1 with a GTX 780 for music production. I'm only upgrading software every 2 years since I need this thing to work. Already got enough other elements in my life acting up. Screenshots attached (of the specs).

I wanted to do the last major upgrade to Mojave before prob getting the new grater in about a year. I did a bunch of research but I'm not entirely sure if I got everything correctly? Will this machine run Mojave with the GTX780? So I basically flash the BootROM, install HighSierra and then go to Mojave? I do have the Mojave installer on my Mac Pro. Will I have to transfer to a USB and run the patch?

I've never updated BootROMs or flashed any firmwares, so I'm pretty new to this, although I'm otherwise a Mac power user.

EDIT: Don't wanna wipe the drive, I wanna go straight from Sierra to Mojave (maybe through High Sierra - what a trip)

If it's a flashed GPU, you can upgrade to MP51.0089.B00 with it, if it's not you need to install the original Apple GPU for the first part of the firmware upgrade.

Read all the post, not just skim it, you will need to fully understand it.

- Kepler NVIDIA GPUs (GT 640/740, GTX 670/680/780, Quadro K5000) note:

If you have a supported NVIDIA Kepler GPU like GTX 680 Mac Edition card, GTX 680 flashed with the Mac Edition firmware, GT 640/740, GTX 670/770/780 or a Quadro K5000 you can't do a USB clean install with it at the moment. The USB installer don't detect that the GPU is a Metal supported card and don't continue the install, it's a bug with Nvidia Kepler GPUs.

To do a clean install, do from macOS with two drives - just select your empty one when doing the install.

Ok, just did. How can I tell if my GTX 780 is flashed? I bought the MP assambled the way it is in 2014 and haven't touched any hardware or firmware since.

ADD: No gray apple screen is appearing when starting up (running a 4K and a UHD in case that makes a difference).

If you have a BootPicker/BootSelector when you boot with Option pressed, it's a Mac EFI/flashed card.

Post a screenshot of >AboutThisMac>SystemReport>GraphicsDisplays to confirm.

Ok, tried the reboot a few times with and without the 4K connected and holding option from before and after the chime on, just in case - no boot Selector. Attached are screenshots with 4K and connected and disconnected. UHD screen is not a problem, correct?

I guess I can flash the card myself? Do you have a working step-by-step guide?

It's a PC GPU, ROM Revision shows that with VBIOS. This is a example of a flashed NVIDIA GPU:

No, you can't flash yourself - last flash yourself NVIDIA GPU is GTX 680. You will need a Apple OEM GPU to upgrade the BootROM to MP51.0089.B00, then you can use your GTX 780 to upgrade from MP51.0089.B00 to 144.0.0.0.0.

You can't use DP1.2 monitor, check the display manual if you can set it to DP1.1, while upgrading Mac Pro BootROM, it's on the first post that I told you to read.

1. Install a Mac EFI64 GPU. Any original Apple card from 2008 to 2012 (HD 2600XT, 8800GT, Quadro FX 5600, GT120, HD 4870/5770/5870) or 3rd party Mac EFI cards like Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition, eVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, NVIDIA Quadro 4000/K5000 or self-flashed/MVC flashed cards.

Just to make sure I got this right: there's only one version so basically any working K5000 would do the job, right?

No, there are PC and Mac versions of K5000.

You are doing questions already answered by the first post of the MP5,1: What you have to do to upgrade to Mojave (BootROM upgrade instructions). Only will work for the first part of the flashing process if it's a Mac EFI GPU, not a PC GPU. After the first part is done, you swap back to the GTX 780 and continue from that.
