upgrading G3 iBook?

My dad has a G3 iBook (500mhz) with 384mb RAM

Unfortunately he was running 10.2.x and couldn't install skype.

So he went and purchased Tiger.
Will it run okay with his current RAM config - or will he need more?

Can he put more in?
I remember reading somehwere that one of the memory chips was soldered into the G3.
So does he only have one module available?

What kind of RAM modules does this iBook take?

Tiger will run, but it will churn somewhat.

It has either 64Mb or 128Mb soldered to the motherboard and accepts a single none-DDR 10ns SO-DIMM.

You can install a 512MB module to max that machine out. That takes it to either 576 or 640.

You can use PC100 or PC133 Laptop RAM.

You could just use the Crucial Ram Finder to check.

Anyway: Yes you can get 512Mb modules
