thanks for the suggestions.
just updated with some more apps.

buckeye, i do want to make it customizable.
i was thinking it'd be a cookie system,
so it automatically gives your iphone an id number
without having to deal with a login screen.

and for functionality i was thinking about letting users
drag and drop the icons where they please. but
after reading the iphone documentation, seems like
drag and drop will be kind of tough.

please keep the suggestions coming, just made
this thing today.

Is the cookie system the way that other app manager is done? I cant remember the name of it, im sure you know what im talking about. It seems to be one of the more popular ones.

Great job keep up the good work!

Would love to get this app more publicity,
please digg it:

http://digg.com/apple/uPhoneHome

thanks!

Updated with 4 more apps.

what do you all think of a rating system for apps? a 5 star system like iTunes. i figure a plethora of apps are going to come out, and to sort through them all would be a pain.

then in addition, users would be able to sort the apps by:
- date released
- alphabetically
- rating
- categories (games, utilities, etc)

updated with the fantastic Movies.app and iWeathr

Take a look at AppMarks if you are looking for ideas.

This page can be customised with your own links. It would be even better if
a) you could add more than 16 icons to the page, or it changed the grid size
b) you could add "folders" of bookmarks - like games etc

Updated.

Now features a top frame bar after loading iPhone apps so that you can browse through the apps without having to reload the home page each time.

Totally agree.
Also, I've added my own 'bookmarks' but all the icons have a question mark. They should allow me to upload a small gif for every bookmark I create so it is more aesthetically pleasing... boo for all the ugly red questionmarks. :(

The best app manager?

I've been through all of these "app" managers and they're all about the same. Only appmarks lets you add your own urls, but NOT your own icons - which makes it ugly. All the rest have incomplete app libraries, quite a few that I use haven't been added, and there are a couple sites related to my work that nobody else would have use for.

we need:

1 - to be able to select from a thorough library of web apps
2 - to specify our own urls
3 - to add our own icons
4 - list and icon view
5 - rearrange icon order

I'm surprised nobody done this yet, would be very popular I suspect.

Well, I think it wouldn't be too easy to make an icon and then upload it from your iPhone. It's not too practical. I think choosing a genre for your own url and having the icon based on that is the best bet. As for rearranging your icons, I'm working on that now...just really hard trying to get it working on the iPhone.

I was actually thinking more of managing the app list and uploading icons from a desktop computer to be used on the iphone, rather than doing everything from the phone.

I'd emailed the appmarks developer. He's very open to suggestions. I can tell you that an icon database is in the works so that people can choose whatever icon they want for whatever app and I think he may also allow us to create our own icons and assign them to whatever app we choose. I do know he's working on it. So far I like appmarks the best. You can already specificy your own urls and rearrange icon order. Soon you'll be able to add your own icons. :)
