Last year, we saw HUGE carrier discounts on the Series 6 and SE watches. They were offering about $250 off an Apple Watch (subject to a 24 month contract). When can we expect them to start offering similar deals for Series 7 this year? Verizon is already offering $150 free beats headphones (if you purchase an iPhones as well) OR a $100 giftcard if you buy from Apple and activate cellular with them. When can we expect them to refresh the offering?

I actually much prefer this year's deal ($100 prepaid credit card) from Verizon and T-Mobile as they only require activating the watch with a cellular plan. That is, I can cancel, downgrade, or switch to a different carrier after the promo is approved.

What sucks about this is they charge a $35 activation fee so it’s just $65! Sucks.

I was planning on jumping on this but just learned the Verizon promo will charge you for the $100 gift card if you cancel the cellular plan within twelve months.

Plus 2 months of service, which adds up to $30 ($15 month after fees and taxes).
So you only end up walking away with $35 net.

Just like a new mobile, I find it rather frustrating that carriers charge for ‘activation’ on their network. After all, if I don’t activate the device in question, the carrier doesn’t receive a monthly fee. Quid Pro Quo, and all that…

Does T-Mobile charge an activation fee too?
Only if you activate the watch with a customer support representative. In that case, you will be charged $20 for assisted support. T-Mobile should not charge $10 additional for SIM card since Apple Watch uses eSIM.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t get charged an activation fee when I switched my series 5 over to T-Mobile from Verizon. I switched it myself on my phone during the setup process.

T-Mobile didn’t do that when I signed up for the iPad promo earlier this year, though I had to call them 2 times to get the line cancelled after I got my gift card. They said they canceled it but I saw the charge the next month.
