I'm using a BaseQi + a UFS II microSD card to expand my M1 Pro MacBook Pro's storage. I realize this is NOT supposed to be a fast solution. I'm using it for storage of things that I'm not constantly accessing or writing/rewriting, or smaller, easier to open documents.

My question is what's the best file system to use for the SD card? It came as ExFAT and I ran Blackmagic speed test and it was averaging like 92 MB/s. I then formatted it as AFPS (encrypted) and speeds dropped to like 13 MB/s.

Should AFPS be faster or should ExFAT (or something else) be faster? What about using encryption—will that slow it down a lot? I don't plan to keep confidential files on it.

Any thoughts?
