Strange idea and it's probably been asked before, but here goes. I'd love to be able to use an iMac G3 as a second monitor for modern MacOS. I'm curious if there is any kind of application that runs on modern MacOS that is able to present a second virtual screen as a VNC server. Then from the iMac, run a VNC client to connect to it.

Last I tried the latency of screenrecycler was worse than the built in screensharing. And it didn't properly handle retina displays to boot. It's quite possible that it wasn't designed for anything past 10.6 though, maybe it works better on older machines.

IIRC it was fairly easy to in-memory patch to bypass the license check, if the developer doesn't respond AND there's truly no way to pay for it AND people find it significantly better than other vnc clients, I can dig up my notes.
