Anyone got any views about using a (quality) generic charger, or about using an Apple iPad charger, instead of the supplied one.

The Apple supplied one is a 1A output so OK for iPhones but not iPads.

What about portable battery packs?

I would prefer to take fewer chargers suitable for all devices when travelling, if possible.

Thanks

Anything that conforms to the USB standard (and has a USB plug )will work fine.

Have charged mine from various charging points including:
  • iPod adaptors
  • iPhone adaptors
  • iPad adaptors
  • Kindle USB adaptors
  • An older style Apple 'travel' charger fitted with euro pins, plugged into the shaver socket on a sleeper train
  • The watch foldy-uppy adaptor plugged into the laptop socket on a train
  • Every other USB port imaginable including the ones in the car
  • A TomTom adaptor plugged into the 12v
All fine.
