What would happen if the Windows partition became infected by a virus?
Would uninstalling windows, reformatting the partition for mac osx, running boot camp again, then reinstalling windows resolve the problem?
What if a virus corrupted he hard drive in some way? Would this be unsalvageable?

Hmm... Generally a virus will only infect the OS and not cross partitions, especially if the other partition is theoretically unreadable such as the format used by OSX. Removing Windows from the partition and reinstalling should suffice in eliminating the virus. OSX shouldn't need to be reformatted or reinstalled, or even changed in any way. :)
