Is it only compatible with Apple Watches? According to the website this is the case. Perhaps Apple may in the future make a iOS and MacOS version.

Yes but I speculate Apple added it because they want to sell watches. Maybe it eventually comes to iPhone and iPad but if it does I bet it would be a year or two later (and will depend on whether it's a popular feature or not).

You can send iMessages with small recordings in it on your phone, why bother with this walky-talky stuff?

Would be better for them to rebrand this functionality as walky talky, IMO, as thst also gives consistency across platforms.

I have a watch but I would like this on the phone too. The current method of recording and sending voice messages in iMessage has always been a bit clunky to me. We rarely use it.

Maybe they could add a button to the lock screen. Then we could have push to talk like back in the old Nextel days.

That would be great (but unlikely).

As antiquated as Nextel tech was, the walkie talkie feature worked extremely well (when signal was available). Nothing has come close since.

Hopefully Apple will make this available across all platforms, as it can be a useful feature.

In the meantime, for those seeking a free app with similar functionality, Voxer is decent, can be used as a Push To Talk Walkie Talkie and works on both iOS and Android.
