Hey all, far and wide! MacRumors citizens!

K, sorry bout that all. I am in need of advice. My friend has recently decided to attempt at creating his "dream computer" by hand, with spare parts, etc...:D:cool::confused:

1).: Articles - He actually wants to build a PC :(, but all we've found online are guides for doing OSXx86 on Franken macs. IF YOU KNOW OF A GUIDE TO CUSTOM-BUILDING A PC, please post it. Kthxbai!

2).: Advice - do you have any? If so, we/he want(s) it, so please post.

Alrighties, thx 4 y'all!

Use "build a pc".

Here's some listed:
http://www.buildeasypc.com/
http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/
http://www.mysuperpc.com/
http://static.tigerdirect.com/html/pcbuildingtips.html

Many, many more were listed, but this should be something to get started. You should find everything you could want, and then some. :D

It will be allot of reading though.

Then building a custom pc isn't what you want to do. Those links and the other ones provided above are exactly that. That google search (the ones you say that don't help you) are exactly on how to build a custom pc.

Maybe you should refine your question to a more specific area. I'm not going to venture to guess and I do build custom pc's from case to finish and even do custom case work.

If those links don't help then your question isn't specific enough.

No, we've looked at all of these, I have good guide, we just wanted to know if you had any PERSONAL tips, or tricks, or things to speed up the process.

Then I must agree with kkat69.
Please be more specific, as we won't have the slightest idea where to start.

looking for trash files
dream=nightmare?

...attempt at creating his "dream computer"

we want to know were to get cheap if not free parts

unless your friend 'dreams' of Pentium II/III systems, or raging fast Celeron boxen, i think your friend is out of luck. if you want to bump the budget up a bit, used P4 parts/systems can be found for around $50 on ebay or craigslist.

cheap/free parts are usually lurking around Goodwill stores, School/City/Goverment sales, etc.

best of luck with that!

skimp on the processor but get at least nvidia 8800gt or 9800gt (~$100) for graphics. GPU will slaughter CPU in folding.

PPD of 8800GT is around ~5000

btw the GPU folding client is for Windows only
