Hi all,

Two days ago, my 2017 12" MacBook got really slow while browsing with Safari. At first I thought it was just Safari but Firefox and Brave also exhibited the same behaviour. Most sites would take a really long time to load, to the point of being unusable. Funny thing though, I was able to run a web-based speedtest (it took like five minutes for the site to load) and the ping and network speeds are fine.

In Activity Monitor, my CPU is low, as is ram usage (all green).

Reboot doesn't fix anything. I did see that there was an update to Big Sur and Safari, but installing those didn't help.

Also tried booting into Safe mode, still unusable.

Any other thoughts on what I can do?

Thanks!

Hi all,

It looks like there was a conflict with a Cisco VPN from work that shouldn't have been running. There were two instances running, and manually turning them off in System Preferences solved the problem.
