Weird problems with MacBook Pro starting up

my friend had a MacBook Pro, and it's only 3 weeks old. But yesterday she faced the following problem. Just to inform you that the laptop has both Mac OS X and Windows xp...

The screen had a white layer on top of it with vertical lines, later on the screen colours were changing with a mixure of lines in all different directions. The next day after working on the windows xp partition, she switched the laptop off, when she switched it on again, the windows xp partition was not working at all.

Please if anybody has an idea what the problem is and how it could be resolved let me know

Is the White layer and/or the lines only visible on Windows XP, or do they occur on OS X as well?

I'd say take it to an Apple Store as soon as possible. It's most likely hardware related (since it happens on both OSs, but I am not an expert...).

i second that advice, probably a video card / video card to screen problem
