what are/mean those startup icons?

when starting up os x a blinking world icon appears, followed by a "finder" icon and a question mark (both blinking) -

and finally the mac os x screen comes ...

those initial icons weren't here at the beginning ...

what do they mean?

any repair of the libraries necessary?

oops, found the answer, had to do with system preferences - computer was trying to start up from network server instead of hard disk ...
