I'm hoping someone can answer this.

Often, when I upload larger files to iCloud, a local copy still sits on my machine and then after (days, weeks) it becomes iCloud only, thus freeing up essential space.

My question is what controls this decision on iCloud? I have some larger files (5GB or larger) that have been sat on my machine for a week or more. Is there anyway to force an upload?

I've been using iCloud Drive ever since it came out but I find its strange way of working sometimes infuriating.

Kind Regards

So strange that I don't use it.

I don't think anyone here can tell you exactly how the "decision" is made. Also, unlike other syncing services, Apple/iCloud won't let you make these decisions yourself.

You either have to let it do what it wants to do or turn it off and perhaps use a different syncing service.
