Anyone know if the iMac G5's thermal paste is applied correctly, or is applied like in the intels. Just thought it would be fun to know. :)

 This whole thermal paste issue is getting way outa hand. Yes, it appears that it might be an issue for a few MBP's, but now people are ripping apart their powerbooks and ibooks for no reason at all.

Don't forget Mac Minis! I tore mine apart to check... and it was fine.

There is no paste in a Desktop machine is there?

I thought that is why there are those huge heatsinks. They can have heatsinks cause there is a lot more room in the enclosures. I've never heard anything about G5's overheating and thus think this claim is a bit of a naive one.

I opened up my Macintosh IIfx to check the thermal paste. I was so relieved to find it didn't even have a heatsink.

I agree. Apple does seem to have screwed up somewhat on the MBP, but a lot of chips just run hot. In fact, all modern chips at decent clockspeeds are going to run fairly hot! Thermal paste is not why high end G5s need to be watercooled!

I'm pretty tired of the whole thermal paste thing, but thought I'd share some Quad thermal paste porn:

I'm gonna leave that open on my computer, so when my girlfriend comes over and asks "what's this?" I can say "I swear I only read MR for the interesting posts, baby, I don't even LOOK at the pictures!"

i wonder if Lisa or Apple I had heat problems...
The Apple /// had major heat issues, the Apple 2s also had problems.

All because Steve didn't like fans.

But these newest machines now have fans, and people are still complaining about heat 30 years later.
