My friend have an SE 2016 that is to the end of his life. What iPhone you recommend? 13, 14 or 15? His use is for internet, email, youtube, vimeo, telegram. She wanted the 13 Mini but is out of production.

Other retailers besides Apple themselves should still have leftover stock.
Look for brand new, sealed devices of course.
You can equally add Apple Care+ to it if required.

It is also worth looking at carriers' shops in their device only section (without a cell phone contract).

If like small 13mini. 15 pro is great and not heavy, since the evolution advancement is insignificant minor incrementally, the 15 is good to go for a few years

In Europe for whatever reason the 13 Mini (if you can find new one) still cost to much… for the same price you can get iPhone 14, but if she don't mind investing a bit more she should get the 15 (non pro) instead.

If she's part of a family where they all are using Apple devices and have a load of lightning accessories it may be a reason to stick to the "older" iPhones.
If that's not the case and moneys not an issue go with the 15.

I would also check Apple's refurbished section.

The regular 13 is an incredible phone.

I have been using mine since January 2023 and I couldn’t have asked for a better device. The newer phones are obviously better but they’re probably overkill for her use case. There is no right answer as the 13, 14 and 15 line are all brilliant phones. It depends on her budget and how long she plans to keep it for.

I used an OGSE in 2022 as my main device for 8 months on iOS 15 and it was pretty awesome.

The 13 will likely last for 5 years however if she’s wanting the phone to be supported by Apple for longer then she should consider a 14 or 15.

Our problem with the SE 2016 is the supported LTE bands are fewer than newer models. In some areas, that has meant an iPhone 11 gets signal but the SE 2016 doesn't.

Also, 5G has been a huge help. The LTE networks were getting too congested around the period of the 3G shutdown.

Either go low (iPhone 13) or high (iPhone 15). The iPhone 14 doesn't make much sense.

It may if you can get it for free.

Verizon is offering me a "free" iPhone 14 Plus if I add an Unlimited Welcome line to my account (basically just $10 extra because of multiline and autopay discounts). Great deal if one actually needs a new line and phone (e.g. for an older kid or something).

If there is a new 13 mini to buy, and the cost isn't a deal breaker compared to other models, then go for it. That's what I did last year when I moved from an SE 1st gen to a 13 mini.
