What is the best way to move dv to a different tape

I want to consolidate clips from many tapes onto a few. I only have one camera so rules out the camera to camera idea.

I have tried to import the clips into iMovie, change the tape, select share, and output to tape. My first attempt was full of choppy video and a definite loss of quality. The second attempt was better, but I am uncertain if I am losing any quality. I am also losing the date data.

Any ideas?
