iPhone XS What is the purpose of the tinted flash unit

Originally tried to post on r/apple / r/iphone but they literally do not allow anything other than links, so asking here...

Why is the flash unit in all iPhone from 6 and onwards tinted in purple? You can not only see it when looking inside the unit, but also with the naked eye on your iPhone right now. Just point it to direct light and you'll see it's purple (not sure if sunlight would work).

I think this is a UV filter to remove the UV light from the LED flash module, but that’s just a guess
