What % of income a year do you use for Apple

Curious what % of your income (gross) you annually spend on Apple products.

My wife and I don't upgrade often - 3 to 5 years for our laptops and every 2 to 3 years for our phones and watches. So it works out to a small number - maybe a fifth of a percent or so.

Probably less than you if not 0%.

This year is a little different than normal, I sprang for a 2TB iCloud sub in May and have spent around $190 for a battery for a 6 Plus and my son's SE2.

I suspect though you are probably meaning how much outlay for new Apple products and I can't help you there. I'm typing this on a 2009 MacPro running Mojave and the youngest device in the house (my 11 Pro Max) is circa 2020. Plenty of Macs in the house of early Intel and PowerPC vintage though.

My outlay for older Apple devices is much less than what people pay for new stuff.

I do have an 2022 13" MBP M2 and a 2015 MBP, but those are work Macs and not mine.

Totally depends on the years, but probably an average of 0.3% or less if I had to guess.

For services and subscriptions, just a 2TB iCloud+ storage sub, iTunes Match, and Apple Arcade, so about 0.1% for that.

For iPhones, I keep mine for a long time, and most of the Macs I buy were used, so not full price.


Ironically, when I made less money many years ago, I spent a lot more money on Apple products than I do now.

Seems like as time goes on, there has been less reasons to upgrade to a new device than 15-20 years ago.

Now that I am thinking about it, almost all of my family's daily used Apple devices are now over 10 years old.

In 2020 I bought my first Mac since 2015, and ordered it with BTO upgrades. That came to around 6%. Since then, zero.

Serious question, not trolling: are you benchmarking this for FIRE purposes? Or something else?

And a random thought...a common rule of thumb is that housing costs should not be more than 30% of one's annual income. So is a 1% tech spend an aggressive or a conservative level?
