Enablers were hardware-specific shims to allow the system software to work with machines created after that version of Mac OS was released.

OIC...

Very clear now. I guess my G3 beige is ok without enablers, to run OS 9.2.2 because if they were needed, the system would "ask" for them and subsequently be installed.

I think I gotcha.
