I agree ed, it will just look like a normal stereo interface but the chips inside will know what to do.

This is what I found on the trading sites:
Philips to use Apple's Jaguar operating system in home entertainment devices
10/09/2002 20:10:32
PARIS (AFX) - Apple Computer Inc chief executive Steve Jobs said the company has agreed a deal with Royal Philips Electronics NV under which Philips can use Apple's software in its next generation of home entertainment systems.

Jobs said the system will allow users access to technology not available to users of Microsoft's Windows system.

"Apple and Philips believe that consumers want their electronic goods to be connected across their homes," said Gerard Kleisterlee, Philips chairman, in a video link to a convention of Apple users in Paris.

No financial details were disclosed.

Implies the whole operating sytem but I'm sure that cant be true.

The potential for Rendevous is huge, maybe even to the degree of total control over your house and everything in it.....

Control of the heating, deliveries, fridge, stereo literally everything.... all controlled directly from your Mac......

So cool.......

Well, let's not go overboard here, while I feel the same about the level of untapped potential in Rendezvous (note, it is spelt as if it is said ren-dez-vous) it does not make all those things possible.... it just makes them easier. Same with the Philips deal... Rendezvous does not make controlling your stereo from iTunes possible it makes it useable by the average consumer.

I want total control of every aspect of my life through my mac....(on second thought, that could get sloppy)

however, I control all the sound through out my house already from my desk (I do however) have to have an amplifier that can switch on what speakers I want on etc....

and I am working on not buying a dvd player, and just running cable from the mac to the tv's

in PC world, you can already do your lights and thermostat on timers etc....that's kinda cool!

HUH???

Why not hello Rendezvous over Bluetooth????

I think people are a little confused about what Rendezvous really is.

You can already to that with OS X. I think there's a program called "Thinking Home", that connects to an x10 network of devices. I don't think you have as much flexibility as some of the PC programs have, but you can control plenty of things from your Mac...

Sorry but I can only find a joke funny if it is based on some form of logic.

If apple releases a computer that is worth-while in Jan. then I will get one of the Philips Randezvous stereo's I need a new one badly . But if apple releases more crappy hardware in Jan then im sure PCs will have copied Randezvous and renamed it Randy or something :D, and I can live with that.

In case you missed my earlier comments:

WIRELESS, ZERO CONFIGURATION, SECURITY: PICK TWO

The stereo must either have a way to enter a WEP key (which is not great security, right off the bat), and hopefully a way to enter the network name (aka SSID), or else it would require you not to use an SSID or WEP on your network.

Or it might not be wireless at all, and you would have to plug an ethernet cable into it. that is pretty lame.

If it doesn't have any security, than what is to prevent your neighbors from putting porn on your tv or Eminem on your stereo?
