The boxy 12 design- by far.
I couldn’t use my 11 or previous models without a case due to the curved, slippery sides. Hard to pick up, and slick as a bar of soap.

The 12 is great- so much easier to pick up snd firmly hold onto due to the flat sides.

I owned the 11 and now own the 12; for me the 12 is much much easier to hold.

Personally, I favour the flat edges of the 12 series (and 4, 5 before them).
I still find it a bit on the slippery side at times, but unless they do some kind of treatment to the glass, I don’t see that changing much.

Still, given the choice, aesthetically and functionally I’ll take flat edges every time.

iPhone 11 for me, don’t like the sharp edges of 12, and 11 seems easier to hold too.

For me, my 11 with Apple plastic cover was impossible to handle, so I put it away for a while.
Until I found a case with straight edges (that makes it look like a 12), but most importantly makes it usable.

+1 I’ve had the 11 for…going on 2 yrs now and have had it in the Apple Clear Case. Picking it up from a table, etc…is the tough part. It always feels like it’s going to slip out of my fingers as I pick it up. Can‘t wait to pick up the 12s/13 in just a few weeks now:). I’ve got my eye on the 13 mini.

First I had iPhone 4, then I upgraded to iPhone 6 and I kept it only 6 month and I changed to iPhone SE, that i have now, I overpassed the 12 and now I have enough money for the 13.

so my choice goes to square design.

Opinions are one thing. But I think the smooth edges of all the curved/rounded iPhones are much more prone to slipping out of your hand.

The right angles of the squarer models, like the 4, 5, 5s, and 12s seem to "dig" into the skin of your palms more so they aren't quite as likely to slip out of your hands.

Two or more flat surfaces are just more likely to stick to the moisture of your skin than two rounded surfaces.

Obviously, this also comes down to the dimensions of your hands and whether you go for a smaller or a larger iPhone.

But in the end, I think the smaller and squarer the iPhone is, the easier it is to hold on to and vice versa.
