Whats Your Display Resolution?

okay , so i did a search but couldnt find anything , am using my 17 inch iMac since aug 05 , and its set to 1440x900 , everything is fine but i cant find a lot of large images for my wallpaper , so i decided toady to set it to something lower , so its 1152x720 now , images for the wallpaper look much better since they dont need to be stretched or anything , but everything else i see (in safari,mail,iphoto..etc) looks smoother , images arent sharp anymore , do i have to change any settings ? or edit something ??

LCDs have a tough time displaying non native resolutions.



Instead of sacrificing monitor quality, try this site. They'll have big enough wallpapers.

NO. And this is the biggest problem with LCDs IMO. On my ACD, everything is almost TOO small on my screen, and there's nothing I can do about it. LCDs need to be viewed at native resolution.

I'm currently stuck on an emac 17inch with a res of 1152x864. i have to say... its a real struggle at the moment. im using that because at the native 1024x786 its virtually unusable for anything other than safari and mail. Using photoshop, dreamweaver, flash etc. really heavily this passed few weeks has really been a nightmare.

Yes.

Even more fun trying to find 1920 * 1200 wallpapers.

Not many, and those that do want you to sign up to a website.

Ended up stealing Apples own from a website that had "aquired" them.

Really? I changed my icon size and default system fonts to be bigger so I don't have to strain my eyes on my 20" LCD.

Edit: you can also change default font sizes in safari and mail too.

Yes, well, that's not quite 'everything'. There are a lot of things I do on my computer that are annoyingly hard to read- like online poker and sites with fixed size and/or graphic text, or text in .swf files, pixel fonts, etc...

No, actually. I was explaining the difference between my CRT and my ACD. On my CRT, I don't have these problems, because I can switch the resolution to whatever I want and not have it look like crap.

I am at 1024X768 on my lappy and LCD.....cant get any higher it will do.

My old PC allowed me to go to much higher res on it, but my new PM sets 1024x768 as the maximum

1280X1024 on my main display, though if you want real fun, try running Tiger on a clamshell. 800x600 is just too small, even if the screen quality is top notch

True, but you do have some control - which was my point - you made it sound like you were completely stuck.

That's curious. Surely the PM's video card can handle a higher res?

I have a 1280x1024 17 in LCD. It's a nice screen to look at but I wish it was a widescreen format. I bought it before my Mini and never even considered widescreen, which I think were not really big in the PC world even a year ago.

That's what I thought too. It doesn't make since to me.

My monitor can run at 1600 by 1200, and my vid card (6600 LE) can handle 2048 x 1536, so I don't get what the problem is.

You can't go any higher than native with an LCD...even on a Windows box.

It's a CRT. I've ran Windows and Linux on much higher than 1024x768 just fine, on much older hardware and weaker vid. card. So my bran new PM should definitely be able to go beyond 1024x768 on a 19" crt.
