I was curious to know what kind of processor everybody is using. It seems like so many people are using Intels now that I feel out of date with my iMac G5!

Vote.

I'm thinking about buying a MacBook, but that's a ways off. I still love my G5, even though the hard disk died about a year ago, and while all of my data came back, iPhoto not only added in all the thumbnails and originals of my photos, but they're also all out of order.

Still, I love my G5, too! :apple:

68030, G3, and Core 2. One from each of the categories :D

They didn't make very many 68030's, either, did they?

~*~*~

I also have an iMac G3, although I'm happy to say that my mom's switching from her PC to that. :) My brother and one of my sisters have PowerBook G4's. The other two sisters and my dad still using PC laptops.

I've always wanted to get an iMac G4 so I could do a photoshoot with my G3, G4, and G5 and tilt the screens to the same angle a la the iMac G5 "From the Creators of iPod" photo.

That was the top of the line processor from 1988 to 1991, and was the main processor for early PowerBooks until mid 1994.

I'm running a G4 1Ghz. No plans to update anytime soon, I'm hanging in for an ultra-portable partly because I don't want a super powerful computer - I'd just end up gaming all of the time!

I know someone always seems to have a different idea  when there are poll options, so apologies in advance, but it might be interesting to separate out the G3 from the G4/5 to get a better idea of how many people hang on to their 'tried and trusted' and for how long.

Voted Intel, only.

I only use the MacBook for day-to-day computing, but I still keep my old iBook G4 as a backup machine (which was good when the MacBook's HD died just before Christmas) and for the very occasional classic game.

Intel for my desktop...Core Duo, and PowerPC G4 for my laptop

I can't see myself replace my iBook just because its small and not a heavy as the MacBook.

Maybe oneday I'll replace my Mac Mini and iBook with a MacBook Pro, but that would be a while off.

Dual 5160 3.0 (Dell Precision 490)
5150 2.66 (DIY Server)
Core 2 Duo 2.33 (Dell XPS M1710)
Core 2 Duo 2.33 (Lenovo Thinkpad T60P)
Core 2 Duo 2.33 (Dell Latitude D620)
Core 2 Duo 2.33 (Macbook Pro 15")
Core 2 Duo 2.0 (Samsung Q35)
Core 2 Duo 2.0 (HTPC)
Core 2 Duo 2.16 (HP nx9420)

More elsewhere.
