Toyota has announced almost every single car that it makes will have CarPlay by 2020, but they left Prius off the list. Anyone know any information about when/if Toyota will bring CarPlay to the Prius? Thanks.

There’s no answer for this. Toyota purposely has been late to the game with adding CarPlay, which the Avalon was the first to receive it. They weren’t keen on adopting CarPlay in the first place, which they wanted to continue to use EnTune as much as possible. If there was one auto manufacture that is the most stubborn when it comes to CarPlay, undoubtably has to be Toyota, being that most of the other car manufacturers have been implementing CarPlay years back.

The slow rollout of CarPlay to Prius might be because that vehicle uses a different Audio/IT platform than on the other vehicles, and that radio may be on edge of HW capability to support CP/AA. I work for another OEM, and this has been the case for us. Some products can easily switch to another radio system mid-cycle while others may need to wait for a full redesign to get the update.

Full redesign probably won’t come till’ 2021 model if we’re lucky. Maybe 2022.

Wasn’t Ford the other major hold out, but they finally jumped in before Toyota.
