Which Display Is Best?!!!

I'm looking for a good display for reading text, since that's how I spend the majority of my time on the computer.

I'm thinking of the 17" iMac vs. some other display that I can plug into a mac mini for around the same price; since performance isn't really a convern for me, I figure either the iMac or the mini will be just fine, as long as the display is great.

Does the 17" iMac display compare favorably to other 17" (or so) in displays out there? If there's a huge distinction between text on the iMac and text on a third party display I'll just get the mini, otherwise I'll follow my aesthetic principles and get the iMac!

Please help me with your advice!!! (And thanks !)
