Which external monitor do use?

I'm looking for an external monitor to make it a bit easier for me when recording music on my MacBook (black). Not sure which size yet but I'm sure it will be over 17". If you know you're model # then I could look it up and see if it's affordable and impressive for me.

FYI: Apple Store people told me a Macbook would work well with the 20" or 23" apple monitor but not the 30", due to its lacking an independent GPU.

I have a widescreen dell sp2208 I think, or some model number like that. It has a built in webcam that works with macs and is the proper silver color
