So from the NYT cooking app on my Ipad, I was able to subscribe for all access(including the news) for $3.99/month for 12 months which I did on 12/21/23. I get an email from apple.com with the confirmation at that rate. However on my iPhone under subscriptions, it states they will bill me $24.99/month starting Feb 21. When I press on it, then the next screen says I have the promo for $3.99.
Being pro-active, i wanted to be sure that I will get the $3.99 rate on Feb 21. I start a “chat” support and they confirm that they will charge me $24.99 on Feb 21. I show them all the evidence via screen shots of the email and iphone and they can not do anything about it. They refer me to another support via phone call and they state I have to take it up with the app developer.
So now I have e-mailed NYT with pics of all the evidence. I have yet to hear back from them and hopefully it can get squared away.
Anyone with similar expereince?

Had a similar issue with a local paper here in terms of service. I thought I had an actual account with the paper when I wrote in they could not find my account. It seems the paper keeps track of the accounts purchased on their web site, but not the accounts purchase via the Apple iPad app. I have a valid subscription but through Apple, not the paper. If you purchased the subscription via the iOS or iPadOS apps, check the Apple Store subscription listing and see if it’s there and what the price is as well as accessing The NY Times through the app.

NYT says it’s Apple’s problem. So back to chat support with Apple. They told me now it is under investigation and let me know.

That special price is not reflected in the Apple Store. Picture below is from the App Store page for NY Times.

No, I no longer work for Apple, I am retired. I was a product specialist in a retail store. I also worked the set-up table in the family zone as well as occasionally on point. Like I said, I had a previous problem with a subscription to a local newspaper. For a while something was wrong with the app but when I used the web version it was fine. I contacted the newspaper but was told I didn’t have a valid account. I knew I had an account because my subscription was current in settings. It seems that the signing up via the app is different than signing up on the web. For one thing web sign up seems to by pass the 30% or less commission issue. The paper’s support people said it was an Apple issue since it was the app. A few days later the app link was fixed and it worked fine.
