Current iPhone 11 Pro
5.8 = 144 x 71.4 X 8.1

Run the numbers
144 / 5.8 = 24.827
71.4 / 5.8 = 12.310


5.4 = 134 X 66.4 X anyones ballgame.

A little smaller than the iPhone 8 is today. Not super happy about this actually.

I honestly do not understand this move by them. I mean what kind of battery is this thing going to have? Personally I think the current 5.8 form factor is balls on and with the 11 pro battery increase I cannot ask for much else. I don't want an IMAX theater in my pocket (6.7) and I don't want a mini phone with a small battery.

Because 6.1 will be the dumbed down line and with LG displays next year. Not the Pro Line. No thanks.

Yes, 6.1 would be great but rumors have it as being the non pro version. I sure hope there was some market justification that revealed users want a smaller pro model with likely a smaller battery. What I’ve realized over the years is that it always comes down to money when something stupid is going on or something that doesn’t make much sense to the majority of people.

they’re true, they come from a very reliable source. 5.4 / 6.7 will have Samsung displays.

6.1 , LG will fulfill because they didn’t meet panel requirements.

I like a big phone, but I think 6.5 is already big enough. Are we really heading to the meme of the iP XXX being the size of an iPad? How big will finally be too big?

Isn't it weird that in the world of 2010 with people using iPhone 3 series and 4 series that no-one felt inadequate and weird for using small iPhones?

I think the 5.4” will end up being closer to 5.5”, like how the XS Max rumors referred to 6.4” but it is actually closer to 6.5” (thus Apple rounds up). This is because the least difficult way to move to the three new sizes all with OLED displays is to go from the current:

5.85” 2436x1125 - 458ppi (152.67dpi)
6.06” 1792x828 - 326ppi (163dpi) (LCD)
6.46” 2688x1242 - 458ppi (152.67dpi)

to this:

5.49” 2436x1125 - 489ppi (163dpi)
6.06” 2688x1242 - 489ppi (163dpi)
~6.7” new res - 489ppi (163dpi)

This unifies all three sizes back to the traditional UI scaling of 163dpi and introduces only one new resolution at the top of the line. Introducing a new resolution at the bottom would means devs would have to stuff their existing apps into a smaller usable area, expanding into a bigger resolution is easier. We know these resolutions can be produced because most Android flagships are over 500ppi.

By this logic, you would therefore assume that the screen is 5.48/5.49” (so basically 5.5”), and such a display would coincidentally have the exact same width as the older 4.7” displays.

That rumour was less than 3 months out from the keynote, at this early stage people were still referring to it as 6.4”. I wouldn’t put much stock in the precise screen size rumours until production nears. Also, the regular models basically have to be 400ppi+ if they’re going to be pentile OLED otherwise they will have worse perceived sharpness than the current 326ppi LCD. It would make sense for them to have the same resolution but be different in other areas (eg. Max brightness, ProMotion, etc).

The battery life could be similar to the current Pro 5.8”, as it will also have to “feed” a smaller screen, which should require less overall energy? If they make it slightly thicker, they could also fit some extra battery cells.

The 5.4" size would be nice for me too. I went from 3G, 4, 5, 6, 7+, X. (with offshoots like my backup phone line being the SE).

Hopefully without a major battery life issue. But on vacation, especially overseas, I learned to carry a backup phone for the extra battery in the extra phone.

My hunch is that the 5.4" iPhone will be a huge success for Apple, even if it's not a Pro model.

Anecdotal but from what I've heard from people is that they're generally tired of big phones and they always appreciate and are blown away when I whip out my iPhone SE and they hold it in their hands.
