iPhone XR why 2 iphones are mirroring content on each other?

My sister recently bought an iPhone XR to substitute her old 32gb 6s. she made the initial setup and everything and was planning to use her old 6s as a media player or backup device, but... for some reason the 6S mirros everything that is installed on the XR, for example, she installed COD mobile on the XR as she has more memory now to install bigger games and the same started downloading on the 6S, now any app she installs on the XR installs also on the 6S and vice versa, how can we stop this behavior?

Go Settings - iTunes and App Store - Unselect Automatic App Downloads.

Both iPhones are logged in to the same Apple ID/iCloud account.
If you don't want to the 6S to do any sync to the XR, then log out the 6S.

Or as previously posted turn off the features like auto app downloads that actually do this.

For that single issue he has described, yes. But for isolating old iPhone 6s from iPhone XR, she has to log out of Apple ID on her 6s, otherwise things like calendars and contacts and photos (for iCloud Photo Library) and other things are going to be synced.

OP may not want to log out of iCloud (so as to continue to receive iOS and app updates, and backups as a minimum).

If want to stay logged in, need to “break” the links, that you no longer want.

In Settings, on old phone...

icloud..go through entire list, (including iCloud Drive section), and switch off all of those apps in “apps using iCloud” you don’t want to sync. If you still want old phone to backup itself, leave that on.

Messages, FaceTime, Phone..some adjustments needed in some or all of these depending what functionally you want old phone to have. Even if no SIM card/no cellular in old phone, likely still get (i)messages and possibly face time, via WiFi/internet connection.

I think simply turning off iCloud Drive would resolve any further significant issues. The likes of iMessage etc are easy to turn off.
