I have an iPhone X running 11.3 and I haven’t updated as I don’t want to compromise battery life.

When people send me images lately, I’m assuming from the new iPhone as this was never an issue before, I get this when I click on them to enlarge:

I've got an iPhone 6 running iOS 9.3 and I get pictures sent to me via messages all the time from iPhone users using the latest iPhones and most recent version of iOS - and pictures and videos come out fine

I have no idea what the root cause is but this appears to be a jpeg image you’re having issues with and those have worked on any iPhone in the past.

In the middle of several books.
That strikes me as a write up where they just throw some troubleshooting steps in an article as if it were a solution to a specific issue without investing much thought into it. But maybe I’m just generally not in agreement with most “articles “ on that page.
I found it to be the same way. However, if something in there was a help the OP gets his problem solved.

What do you suppose it could be?
