There is nothing wrong with the old design, at least with the benches and other furniture. The primary design change I can see by looking at the photos is the lighting, and the place's spaciousness (lots of room for more people). The old design with bright lights was so the customer would make his or her purchase and leave. The new design makes the customer feel more relaxed (sort of a homey environment), and now he or she can hang around the place longer. Would the change bring-in more money to the shareholders?
