I searched for one, but couldn't find any threads on this so far...

Why is it that Garageband is free, but iMovie and iPhoto aren't? I mean, they're all part of iLife...

They're all free for devices activated after Sep. 1st. Garageband is free for all devices.

Garageband is free for all devices because it offers in app purchases - this gets around some licensing issue.

Anyway, iPhoto and iMovie being free were announced at the iPhone event. Garageband at a later date..
