I have a pretty new iMac, bought it at the end of the summer when they refreshed the line. 10.13 isn't showing up for me as an update. I'm running 10.12.16 and the computer says no updates available and it wasn't listed in the app store either.

It is not an 'update' in that sense of the word, it is a new OS*. It will not show as an update. On the other hand you should be able to find it by searching for High Sierra in the App Store.

A.

* Yea, I know - it is a macOS thing.
