wifi freezes and locks up

hi there,

I've been having some trouble with my wifi locking up on me while connected to any network. The icon in the top right of the screen says it's connected but I cannot access any web pages or complete any wifi related tasks. When i try to turn off the wifi and reconnect the icon remains the same. Essentially to fix the problem I have to put my mac to sleep by closing the lid and reopening it. Then I can turn off the wifi and reconnect properly. Connection times can last anywhere from 4 minutes to about an hour but without fail the connection will drop and freeze up again. This problem has been consistent through 2 or 3 operating system upgrades as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Just tried all those steps! will report back if i have problems again. i completed those exact steps with the El capitan version of the article that osx daily posted but maybe it will work with sierra.

no does not happen with any devices. happens on my school network and at home.

Do u think replacing the wifi adapter would solve the problem? I can do that without bringing it in.

I have suffered wifi problems ever since Apple replaced my mainboard (although out of warranty this was to fix a graphics issue which apple were aware off).

I tried all the fixes I could find, delete wifi related files, making new wifi connections, changing location etc.

In the end I put two padded sticky pads (one either side of the cable - see article above) and so far so good, no more problems. The pads are keeping the case from pressing against the cable.

It may be the cable...

This makes a lot of sense. I definitely noticed that wifi was worse when I would use it on non flat surfaces or move it around. However now it kind of just sucks everywhere. Will open it up today and look. Thanks!

Thank you for everyones input! Problem was fixed after i added the cushioning to either side of the cable.
