Hey!
Do you think Apple will release a new budget iPhone any time soon? I have a friend that uses iMessage only and doesn't want to download any other apps. I was thinking to get an iPhone SE 2020, but my gut feeling says that it's better to wait till Spring, right?
Do you think Apple will release a new budget phone? And please don't recommend iPhone 12 Mini as a budget phone. I could pay 2 months rent with this money and still have some left over.
(I'm from Eastern Europe and iPhones here aren't really cheap considering the average income. I could afford iPhone 12 Mini, but...almost a 1000€ for a phone is just funny)

There’s rumours of the SE plus which is said to be either a 5.5 or 6.1 LCD that’ll come out either late 2021 or 2022.

Agree with the responses above, and to add to the rumor mill that the next "SE" might be an 11 sized device with face ID? (It was from some super sketchy website, but a fun rumor nonetheless.)

I got an 11 and KIND of regret the size of it compared to the SE.... but I'm loving that battery life.

If your friend is looking for a simple iphone for imessage the SE2020 with last year's A13 is still good! I don't know what a new budget phone could even offer in the Spring that the SE doesn't have already.

don’t think the se will get updated at It’s current price until at least 2022 and think for 399 you won’t find a better phone for this price point

I’ve just ordered the se as my work phone and think it will be well worth the price and should last for many years and given it has the A13 performance will be great for a long time

iPhone SE plus incoming this year.

I think the big question surrounding the iPhone SE plus is whether it'll be a repackaged iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone 11.
In other words, will it be 'all-screen' or old school thick top and bottom framing.

Most likely 8 plus, doubt apple would go the iPhone 11 route, it would eat into the iPhone 11 and 12 sales.

So I guess I'll wait till Spring and see what happens. My biggest fear is that I'd buy iPhone SE 2020 and then Apple will release something better and more modern looking. SE 2020 looks quite dated compared to even $100 phones.

I don't want an iPod and I have iPad and MacBook, but when you travel to a foreign country I wouldn't take those with me.

if apple do release an update it will be for a plus version which certainly won't be 399.

my SE 2020 arrives tomorrow and will be my work phone. For the price you can''t really go wrong given the performance and you know it will get updates for at least 2025 if not longer

Yes i can definitely second this, the iphone SE is an excellent phone. Compact, very fast and snappy with its A13 bionic chip. There is no phone right now that can match its performance for its £399 price. Yeah it might be the older design, but its a refined, reliable, tried and tested design with touch id. Its 4.7 p3 colour lcd notchless screen is also perfectly fine, remember Apple only use quality components in their products.

The smart money is on a thin-bezel device with side button Touch ID. That's what Kuo believes. Such a device would fit perfectly into the iPhone XR slot once Apple discontinues it this fall.

I am trying to get a phone number, and a iPhone SE and getting the run around
one company says i need to use a family's member plan
one company sez they don't give out phone numbers (but the guy was wrong rebore)
one company wants me to buy a phone and for $60 bucks a month can use their crappy service.
one occupant wants over $100, then 60 per month for 3 years.

are humans nor born with phone numbers nowadays?

to stay on topic, does the iPhone SE have cellular to wifi automatically?
(my last phone was a kyocera in 2004)

cricket is not a “crappy” service. its AT&Ts network with far better pricing, you can change your plan anytime you want, there are no contracts and you get the SE for $49 which is an absolute steal.

Yes, 100%.

The SE2 will be over a year old in late 2021 and due for a price drop to $349. The $499 iPhone XR will be discontinued. As a result, there will a big gap in Apple's product stack for a low-cost 5.5" or 6.1" device.

The almost no-strings-attached Walmart deal on launch was still nicer. Straight up $200 cash discount when buying on installment for users who already had AT&T or Verizon postpaid service. There was also no early payment penalty unlike the deals for the iPhone 12 which ties you to the carrier for 30 months.

Of course, the great deals we get on devices is offset by the horribly expensive cellphone plans here in the US.
