I currently have a XS on beta 13.1. Once we receive our new iPhones next week, will I be able to restore from iCloud backup? Or it doesn't matter what version firmware im on?

Good question. It really depends on what the phones ship with. I unenrolled my device from the beta program to stick with 13.0.

I considered going back to 12 but my backup didn't work.

You can't restore to a lower version than the backup was made on.

I have no idea whether the beta becomes a factor. I'd expect that the new iPhone would have to be on the same build of the same version of the beta.

Yeah, what I would say is on Monday or Tuesday next week de-register your phone from the beta program and hold on for the full release

This is a really good question, as I’m in the same boat. I’m not certain, but I think we will need to use a computer and iTunes to uninstall 13.1 beta X to downgrade to the 13.0 Public Release. There are instructions on the web to do this. Then, if the new iPhone 11’s come with 13.0, restoring from a backup made with the Public Release should work fine. This seems like a cumbersome hassle, so I’m hoping someone has a better solution.

I wish Apple hadn’t pushed a public beta of 13.1 before 13.0 had been released to prevent this confusion.

We can downgrade without having to do a factory reset?

Well this sucks. I’m planning on trading in my phone apart of IUP and am on 13.1. Unless I’m able to downgrade to 13.0 on the 19th I might be SOL.

edit: couldn’t you just install the 13.1 beta on the new phone?

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Critical and logical thinking is still alive! :)

Jokes aside, this makes sense. We shall see.

I was just wondering about this thread topic.

If I install the public beta of 13.1 on the new phone, are you then able to easily restore it from a backup? If I have to erase the new phone to get through the setup process again, will it just remove the beta profile and beta update from the new phone and just put it back to 13?

I’ve done this with the beta before, don’t think it will remove it unless you actually downgrade it.

I was thinking about this last night and downgraded back to the 13.0 GM last night. The GM is horrible. The native mail app doesn’t work at all and my XS max phone was incredibly sluggish. It was so bad that I upgraded back to 13.1. I ended up calling Apple and asked options (even though they aren’t supposed to support betas) and he suggested just updating the new phone to a beta and then restore from a back up and then if I want to, delete the profile once 13.1 is released.

Which has me thinking, where did macrumors get the info that 13.1 will drop on 9/30? Tech support has no idea when it is coming out (obviously).

i stupidly went to 13.1 too, we are screwed. it wont be for 10 days that 13.1 is released. We cant restore 13.1 backup to 13. So all of us hang on if they offer a beta profile for the 11 at 8am on the 20th, which i doubt.

So, by deleting the beta profile on our new phones once 13.1is officially released and then doing a standard update will update the phone to the official 13.1 version?

I have been on betas before when new phones come out. Take the new phone out the box, install the beta on it, restore backup, done.

So as I understand it, if apple release a compatible Beta on launch day we can simply upgrade the phone to it and do a restore iCloud backup ? But that is reliant on Apple releasing a compatible beta

they need to release the "beta profile" for the 11, that's all we need. I am hoping it comes out at 8am....

Is it possible to downgrade to 13.0 GM from 13.1 without losing anything if I download the IPSW?
