Hello i recently bought an iphone 4s from a friend of mine he told me it was unlocked so i didnt have a problem with it then as a prank he updated it to ios 7.1.1 and now the phone says that the carrier is verizon so i was wondering if i can take my phone to verizon so maybe they can unlock it

No, they will not.
You have to be a customer in good standing for months and fulfil many other requirements.
Also even if you could get verizon to unlock it the unlock is only for international gsm use only. It will not work with any US GSM carrier.
Just for outside the US.
