working apple retail

i was only able to find one thread about this, so i'm just looking to find more info.

does anybody know if the retail stores hire more employees part time over the summer? do you have to be 18? can you comment on the pay / discount (pay could vary state to state though?) if you get can't into specifics, is it at least slightly higher than minimum wage? any good / bad experiences to share?

I'm looking for the same info. I'm 14 now. I remember when I was 12 I'd ask and they'd say 16. Now they say 18.

Well I am 19 and will be a sophomore at Boston College next year. I am very knowledgable in the computer, especially Mac, area, but it just seems like they only hire full time, older people

Plus they want people with a sales background. You don't have to have a tech background,.

But see thats the exact problem with it right now... You go in there asking technical computer orientated questions to these dumb ass people with like you say a "sales background." Half the time I can answer the question myself but I just want reassurance from them, and they have to hand me over to like 4 or 5 people just to understand the essence of my question. I don't understand why they would not want computer people on the floor and sales people behind the register...The computer people are fully capable of selling the products themselves; I mean, Apple products basically sell themselves

i didn't even bother checking out the apple site. you can see the job positions and if anything is available at your local store.

i'm qualified for the cashier and operator positions if they don't think i meet the requirements for mac specialist. those are kind of crappy positions, but hey -- it's a summer job and the discount could make it worth it.

Well does anybody have any advice they can offer me? I am 19 and will be a Sophomore at Boston College. I have always been a longtime advocate for Mac computers and anything made by Apple in general. I would love to work at an Apple store for a summer helping people to switch over to a Mac, enlightening them to the wonderful world of Apple. The only problem is that I have never really had a solid summer job, or a real job of any sort. I really don't need people to be harassing me about this, as its just we have always been really busy traveling over our summers so there really was no time. But now I really have to start gaining a resume. I think I would probably apply for a Mac Specialist position... Any tips on what kind of stuff to highlight on my resume. Obviously, probably that I am Pre-Med at a top university in the country, as well as excited to learn retail skills. I think I would be a great candidate based on my knowledge of their product, but any help from you guys would be great...

there's not much you can do besides send them your resume, which - like any resume should - will outline your education and accolades (i excluded previous work experience because you said you have none).

it never hurts to follow up with a call. that said, most managers will tell you what i said earlier: hiring is based on need. if a store likes your application/qualifications, and needs someone to fill a spot, they will get in touch with you.

sidenote: i don't much care for Apple's hiring process because it seems impersonal. you apply online and then wait for someone to contact you. there's very little human interaction and no way to know if you're close to getting offered a position or have no chance at all.
