Hey guys. I currently have a gen 1 iPad Pro 11” that I absolutely love. I use it every day, more than any other device besides my iPhone. I was able to buy a brand new iPad Pro 11” M2 (256GB) on Black Friday for $650 with no tax. Bought it before even thinking about it just in case I’d want to upgrade. Not sure if it’s worth upgrading from my Gen 1 but wanted to get some opinions.

If price is good, then why not. To me, M2 vs M1 isn't a huge change, so no point in upgrading to that one. Even considering the whole package, M2 iPad has little benefit compared to M1 iPad.

Main advantage for me is the RAM. The CPU/GPU difference is almost meaningless to me (I don't game). More RAM avoids the costant reloads in Safari when using several tabs. Also you can have extended display (again probably because of more RAM), if you care about that.

I love having the "More Space" zoom option on M-series iPads. Due to the airline's carry-on limit (15 lbs), I need to be selective with what I carry. Having More Space makes it a lot easier to leave the 12.9 at home and just bring the 11".

I doubt RAM is a limitation for that feature though. The default viewport on 12.9" is 1024x1366 while More Space on Air 5 is 954x1373

I have a non M chip iPad Pro and can use the more space zoom option.

Are you sure you have a gen 1? Afaik, even after they brought Stage Manager to A12X/Z iPad Pros, more space remained limited to the M-series iPads.

@Digitalguy Does your 11" 2018 iPP have More Space? My aunt has a 12.9" 2020 and that one doesn't have it. If yours has more space, then you're right about the RAM limitation.

Yes, it does, it's only limited to the 11", the 2018 12.9" does not have it.
At first I didn't like the more space option, now I am using it as my default
