Hello there. Recently i was wondering about would catalina install on my 2011 27" iMac without dosdude's patcher if i upgrade GPU to Metal-compatible? I mean, as we all know, the only thing that doesn't allow us to install catalina is the videocard, that is non metal-compatible on old Macs. So, what if i upgrade the videocard in my imac to metal-compatible and try to install catalina without patcher? Does installer checks hardware only or it prevent installing as long as it sees that Mac is unsupported? Will it install?
I want to install catalina but i don't wanna do it with patcher if all the hardware satisfy minimal requirements.
So, basically, my question is "does installer only check for hardware compatibility and doesn't look at machine model if hardware is supported?"

Short answer no.
you can add the card but your Mac will still be identified as an unsupported model.
