I tried to put in a link but got it wrong. As of 5 minutes ago on Sky news in the UK Nokia shares were down 18%.

Edit; now at just under 13% down.

No doubt a strong marketing campaign is going to be necessary to get Nokia back in the black, but I think the hardware they just released is capable of getting them in the right direction. Nobody knows Windows Phone in the US because the biggest carriers haven't supported it. Rumor has it, that will change with WP8. Get people interested and excited about it, and that stock price will go back up.

I hope so, competition is good for the consumer. The article on the news said that at one stage a couple of years ago shares were $40 each whereas now they are about $2.

Snore fest to be honest. It's a lot like the 900 but without the amazing cyan color. I just don't think Windows Phone will ever SMASH like tech blogs make it seem it could, even with this gorgeous hardware. The general consumer does not want that operating system at all.

Isn't this made of plastic? Something so many of you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

And aren't the number of apps extremely low compared to the App Store? Something so many of you can't accept of the Android Play store.

The general consumer doesn't want it because they don't know about it. It's hard to know your options when all you hear about is the iPhone or Droid / Galaxy / Nexus / *insert Android flavor of the week.* Trust me, if Verizon and AT&T really get behind Windows Phone and advertise it, you'll see the OS take off.

How many fart apps and porn apps do you need in a marketplace? Do we really need 127 different "instagramish" filter apps for your camera? If WP8 can provide all of the essential apps, does the difference really matter?

I totally agree.
But on the other hand, I don't even see "basic" (to me) apps like XM Radio (which has 20m subscribers), Flipboard, and I don't even see Instagram itself on WM!

When Windows Phone actually has Instagram I may consider it. But until then it's lacking some essential apps still, even with over 100,000 apps.

They do look great but I still don't like the tiled look.
I see that as a gimmick nothing more.
But hey whatever people like that why it's great to have choices.

Looks good, but I am not so sure about the wireless charging unless the phone can also be charged by a cable. (cables can be put into a pocket)

In any case, I eagerly await the WP8 vs Android threads....

very nice looking phones, but what exactly do they offer over the iphone?

The most obvious id say is two different size screens that are both bigger than 4". The screen on the 920 is pretty interesting. I like Nokia phones and id seriously consider getting one of these. I like the Windows platform.

Yes Apps might be lacking....i dont really care for Instagram but as long as they have the ones that have been around for a while like FB, eBay, Twitter, Shazam, etc.... i think id be fine.

You can search the Windows Marketplace Here

Instagram should be shot and buried. I can't stand it, or the people who think they are photographers because they use it.

I think the new Lumina looks awesome. I am considering it for sure. I'd like to see what the iPhone 5 will offer us, and then see when/how much this Lumina will be. I'd love a break from iOS without having to go Android.

Also, I find it funny that people scream bloody murder when the iPhone form factor does not drastically change from year to year, but when Nokia does it no one really seems bothered. Not just on here, but on other boards I visit.

I honestly hate the WP8 interface. It looks like a touchscreen at a shopping mall rather than a sophisticated phone computing device.

I didn't think a mobile OS could get more childish than iOS until Windows Phone came along.

It's minimalist...

I don't like some of the UI, but that home screen is the best I've seen on any platform. I love how the content IS the UI. There's no chrome, and everything flows really smoothly.

Yes, yes, minimalist, futuristic, etc... Call it what you want, I just don't like it, it's a terrible UI, monotonous, oversized text, vapid, I could go on and on.

You might like it but you are a very tiny minority, most people don't like it and they've voted with their wallets, that rarely happens with consumers.

iOS is minimalist and sophisticated and the same time being functional ad powerful.

Windows Phone's start screen is unmatched at the moment.

No one's voted with their wallets yet, and the sales don't show anything about the "majority" liking it or not.

WP came out late facing two already deeply entrenched competitors. Even if it came out more hyped than it was, I doubt millions upon millions of people would drop their current phones to pick one up. They'll wait til their plans run out, then maybe pick one up.

Case in point, MS has gained a goodly bit of market share over the last year. Nothing absolutely amazing just yet, around 4% globally, but it is growing. Slowly.

According to your flawed logic (which you're going to have to admit by the end of this post), people have voted with their wallets that Android is the better OS than iOS. ;)

hmm screen size is a good point actually. I didn't consider it. Apart from that though, the functionality offered by the OS, what does that offer?

I'd say it is very close to iOS with a different unique interface which would lay it down to personal preference, which I think tiles are superior to icons.

Android on the other hand can be turned into a fully functional desktop if enough money was backing it...which I don't see windows or iOS going in that direction (soon anyway).

I really think Google is prepping something great for the 5th iteration.

European carrier sources: Nokia to start selling the Lumia 920 in November (update: coming to AT&T on November 2nd)

While we heard practically everything else about Nokia's new Windows Phone 8 flagship, there were still two very important details still missing -- its price and release date. Now, according to Reuters' "telecom operator" sources, a spokesperson from an unnamed eastern European carrier said that sales of the PureView-packing Lumia 920 will start in the second half of November, with larger countries landing the device earlier in the same month. Another source from a Nordic operator then followed suit, stating that they expected the phone to arrive in stores around mid to late November. We've reached out to our contacts, and will update if we hear anything more -- especially if it involves a price tag.
Update: It's being reported that the Lumia 920 will arrive in the US on AT&T's network November 2nd.

It looks far better than the iOS grid IMO.

And my GS3 resembles that grid quite a lot because most of the widgets tend to be not so great at showing relevant information nicely. Still a dearth of scrollable widgets out there (why would i need a flipboard widget that i cannot scroll inside? It is just a giant app icon) or ones which constantly move info around. The live tiles are a very neat way to act both as an app icon and information tickers/widgets. Even HTC is making the iconic sense clock widget live tile for their new WP handset which looks nice.

I have been using the Windows 8 evaluation build on my PC and initially i though i would hate it but guess what, i have started to like it a lot more now. And the metro app design is brilliant.

WP8 ties with android holo for an elegant design IMO.

I would try the 920 if it was less than 9mm thin. Seriously, that thing is hot.

I can't believe that they didn't have these phones available immediately. Plus why are they tying themselves to ATT in US. WP7/8 phones are nice but marketing is killing them right now.

IMHO they are the next best thing to the iPhone.
