XWord Free to other computers

Hello people

Forgive me but I am kind of old school and don't understand some of these things.

When I wrote something on my computer using XWord Free, then took it to the library to print it out, the computers could not find it on my thumb drive. Does the computer I'm using have to have XWord Free on it or I can't print my document?

The computers there all had Word.

And Word as in Microsoft Word?

I don't use either, but when I used to have to take stuff to print elsewhere I'd use the "Save as PDF" feature in OS X (File > Print > and then at the bottom left of that window it says PDF... Click that, and it's there) and put that file onto a thumb drive.
