Long time Mac gamers recall that Bungie was a strong Mac developer, putting out hit games/series Marathon and Myth. They were developing Halo for the Mac only (PC to follow later, I think), when they were acquired by M$. M$ trashed their code and had them rewrite it for their upcoming X-box. A year later they ported it for the PC and then from that port to the Mac. Now that the Halo trilogy is complete, they spit out Bungie. That just pisses me off. They basically acquired them, exploited them for the most successful game trilogy in history, and kicked them to the curb when they were done with it. Highly unethical.

Not flaming you or anything but do we really need 'another' reason to hate microsoft? I mean, aren't there enough reasons already?

You talk like this is bad for Bungie. Bungie pushed for it and wanted it because they were tired of being under MS's thumb.

Yeah I'm sure Microsoft did anything possible to keep Bungie under their command. Bungie wanted to be independent and it was Bungie's decision to part ways (partially) with Microsoft.

And everytime you spell Microsoft with $ or "microshaft" a kitten or puppy dies somewhere.

Everything about the first post is wrong. Halo was never going to be Mac-only or Mac-first (they were already doing PC versions before then with Myth and Oni), and wasn't even developed on Macs. Bungie didn't do the PC or Mac ports of Halo at all. MS didn't "spit out Bungie"; it was the other way around. Besides, it was Bungie who told MS to acquire them in the first place.

Spit out bungie? They were a driving force behind Halo's insane popularity. It would not of became so popular if it was only released on Mac. IMO it's a mediocre fps, Microsoft made it huge by throwing money at it and the Xbox.

I'm sure the people at bungie are perfectly happy swimming in their massive Scrooge Mcduck money vaults. Plus for most Halo fanboys, merely hearing the name bungie and fanboys will buy their game expecting something amazing. They could release a game called, "Watching Grass Grow...by the makers of Halo" and it will sell billions hahaha

LOL, you are a bit misinformed.

Halo was demoed at MacWorld in 1999, announcing that it will be a Mac first.

MS bought Bungie in 2000 and made them make Halo for their money losing console.

By the way, MS is "releasing" bungie because MS had to.

When Bungie was bought by MS, MS made the top management sign something to retain them (usually 3, 5, or 7 years), Now it's 7 years after year 2000 and that contract has expired, so top management can now leave the company at will. Many can't wait to get away from MS.

Usually if top people leaves, even if they don't solicit their followers to come with them, many people will follow. MS knows they cannot prevent that, so instead of owning an empty shell with no talent, MS has to make some concessions. However, MS still has a grip on Halo, and right of first refusal on future Bungie games, so Bungie is still not free...

Personally I think all Bungie employees should just leave and start another company. See if MS itself can support and sustain Halo.

Halo was demoed at MacWorld in 1999, but was announced as a simultaneous PC/Mac release. It was actually Steve Jobs that announced it.

Don't whine about Microsoft because Apple did not put much $ or a decent video card into any of there machines until the last few years.
If it was not for Microsoft we would be still playing on a PS1. Sony killed all the others, and made Nintendo flounder. Wii is out now, but it does not have the staying power. Microsoft makes THE gaming world evolve. It is only because Nvidia is now got a great portable video card that I have a MAC. Microsoft is a wonderful scapegoat because they are the target, Apple is now the target. If Leopard is faulty at all, which I hope to god it is not, the Half-life sized wrenches are going to fall.
By the way, I am not touching Vista until SP1 comes out, I bootcamp to my old friend XP pro, so I can play some decent games.
Apple needs to pay up for the chance to play games. Now that EA has bought out Bioware, us NewAgeMACusers may be able to totally stay in the appleworld;)

Sorry, they mentioned release for MAC AND PC, but that should not be 'interpreted' into simultaneous release.

Bungie originally gained fame as a Mac-focused developer. Many of Bungie's games are exclusive to the Mac, and Halo is meant to bring users back to the Mac, because it will be released on the Mac first. Heck, I remembered that PC users after they see the game trailer, heard that it's mac only, dropped their jaws pretty hard.

"Halo was first revealed at the 1999 Macworld expo, where it was announced that the game was to first debut on the Mac, with a PC version to follow."

I would like to see how Bungie's departure will affect Mac releases. Only then can you really see what Bungie is tryin to do by splittin from MS

Or they could just be going multiplatform for all systems.

With the hugely successful Wii and DS they might be moving there (though apparently, if you're owned by MS you can still develop handheld titles, a la Rare). But who knows. Cept them of course.

Exactly. Bungie realised they were now in a financially viable position where they could do this.

The $$$ Microsoft has invested in Bungie has kept the developer in a great position, one which they would never have been in if they developed solely for the MAC.

Like it or not Halo with M$ money and bungies talent has been a great partnership, and one that has not only brought in te $$$ for M$, but for Bungie too.

I mean come on people, get over yourselves and move on :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Er, maybe you should read what Bungie employees themselves have actually said, like Matt Soell (now at Wideload) on InsideMacGames.com. I'm not misinformed...what I said about the first post being wrong on every count (well, except for the first sentence) is correct.
