I saw so many claiming to have downloaded the OS...is it available? I signed up but haven't received an email from Apple yet. However, I receive Compatibility update for 10.10 on Server that states: This update is used by the OS X Install Assistant, and will not appear to the Software Update client.

So, what that mean and the reason for it?

The public beta has not been released, others who have posted here have received their developer copies, i.e., they pay 99 dollars a year to apple to be part of the developer program which includes pre-release versions of OSX.

This year is the first time apple is providing a public beta.

Thank you Mike for responding and for the clarity. How about the Compatibility Update...what's that for...a bootloader?
