Maybe a later iteration of this watch will work, when the bulk is cut in half (or more), and not tethered to an iPhone.

First generation products are almost never accepted. They're way too expensive, unadopted and foreign to the average user. iPod, iPhone, iPad.. I can only remember people reacting poorly and being disappointed by their announcements.
In it's second or third generation is when we get to look back and compare it to it's bulky, slower, more inconvenienced predecessor and realize what a great product it is. That's how it always works. People don't want things until they're the only ones that don't have them. Wearables are laughable and still a bit out of place right now. A few years from now when it's only grandmas that aren't connected to wearable technology, we'll look back and realize we were on the right track all along.
