There's still Firefox + uBlock Origin but you have to enable desktop mode to get >720p.

These days I prefer full desktop browser + uBlock Origin anyway vs constant hassle of updating mobile apps.

Brave also does the trick for me.

Piped is also a good alternative.
Although I like your recommendation, it lacks the comments that I like to read sometimes from YouTube for example. Especially if it’s something like an ‘educational training’ video, I value other viewer inputs in the comments section that I can discuss with.

Yeah, Piped does not support viewing comments by date or live chat, but it is still better than NewPipe on comments section. NewPipe does not support showing any replies.

Although I have YT Premium... I use NewPipe over Vanced.
I was using Vanced on my Mate 40 Pro with YT Premium, was working super well, still is last I checked, but a shame to see it go. My iPhone has been my daily driver so I don’t use the Huawei as much for things like YouTube anyway, was just nice to have Vanced for when I did want to.

It's not completely dead yet. Vanced Manager from APKMirror still works to install/update to MicroG 0.2.24.220220 and YouTube Vanced 17.03.38 for Android 6.0+. On Android 5.x, Magisk root YouTube Vanced 14.21.54 stopped working with 'server 400' error but was able to manually install MicroG 0.2.22.212658 and YouTube Vanced 16.29.39 since Vanced Manager wants to install incompatible versions.

The built-in browser on my old 2012 Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet does YouTube ad-free just because it doesn't support the script that shows ads. Kinda neat since I don't have to keep up with updates or worry about apps suddenly stopping working.

That said, there's built-in adblocking on the latest version of Samsung Internet, and you don't need a Samsung phone to use it.
