Hi,

I was eagerly awaiting the announcement of the iMac 27" with an M1 processor to replace my Late 2013 iMac, but no deal... so I guess I will get a Mac Studio as soon as they are available in Brazil (hopefully this year).

I don't have the budget for an Apple monitor. I'll probably buy a 28" or 30" 4K monitor for it, but there are many options and I am not up to date on all the types of cables to connect the Mac Studio to the monitor. Does anyone have a good reference for the tech specs or for a monitor model that can get me 4K, with as little lag as possible? I mostly use it to code and photo/video edit (almost no gaming).

I've also been reading about using 4K TVs as monitors, they are bigger (above 40 inches), that is a bit too large for my office.

thanks
Rafael

I’m going with a Dell U4021QW. 40” UltraWide, 5K2K Resolution (same as a 4K display but wider).

Expensive, but I want the resolution and built in KVM to switch between the Studio and my personal and work laptops.

Looks awesome, but very expensive...

I went with the LG 34" Ultrawide which has a 5K resolution.

There's lots of "retina-like" 4K screens at 27" out there, for reasonable money, but when you start going bigger than that, the price can go up very quickly if you are wanting something that will be "retina-like".

I use the LG 43inch 4K monitor (43UN700) and think it's very good for the money. I would have preferred a second USB C port though, at least.

I currently have a LG Ultrafine 32UN880-B with my 2017 iMac 27” and just ordered a second one from Costco to run a pair with my recently ordered Mac Studio.

I'm sure the screens would look nice but the enclosures are butt ugly. Cheap ol' plastic
Agree. I really like the Apple design, but almost £1.5K more for a smaller display just wasn’t going to cut it.

The ergo stand is a brilliant piece of design, and the bezels are small enough not to notice.

Running in 3008 x 1692 seems to give a crisp, clear display, but with plenty of desktop space.

I was very tempted to get the Dell U3223QE but almost everyone gets one with really bad light bleed from the edges and it's only 60Hz.

I'm going to get the Gigabit M32U gaming monitor because it works well with latest Macs at 4K 144Hz over USB-C or Display Port. I'm also going to hook my 27" 2019 iMac up to the monitor for more screen room if I need it when using the iMac. There are also 2 HDMI ports for hooking up my various HDMI devices like Apple TV 4K, cable box, gaming systems, etc. All with an easy input selector and KVM switch.

I got the LG 34" Ultrawide 5k/2k (LG 34WK95U-W) a few weeks ago and so far I love it. With my resolution set at 5120x2160, everything is large enough for my old eyes to read, barring some apps that just don't seem usable on any screen, and the extra width over a standard 4K resolution screen is the killer feature for me.

It is absolutely no substitute for Apple's displays, or even LG's Ultrafine displays sold by Apple. It's not as bright, not as sharp, not as crisp text, the color isn't as vibrant, and it reflects more light than the other displays (at least in my office). But it's closer than any other display I've tried, and I appreciate the flexibility it offers with the ports on the back and the height/tilt/pivot stand. I can't wait to pair it with the new Mac Studio!

I agree with what MacGizmo says - the Apple displays really are a level above. However, a decent 4K (or 5K/2K) screen can be excellent depending on your usage requirements. For me, I code. I don't do audio, video or gaming.

I've had great luck with Dell Ultrasharp and LG monitors. I'm currently running a calibrated, 4k, LG 32UD59-B which was discontinued a year ago. I run it at 3k because IMO it's the sweet spot for font sizes on a 32".

Just be sure to read some reviews to find some people running the exact display on a Mac Studio machine.

currently leaning towards the Asus ProArt PA329CV. from the reviews i've read, it seems like a relatively inexpensive display that's good for photo/video work. eventually i would like to get an Apple display and would use this a secondary monitor for game streaming. naturally, i'll keep an eye out here to see if you guys and gals have any recommendations.

Oooohh, that’s cool! I never even knew that monitors could come with built-in KVM switches.

Any idea of who sells it currently?

There do only exist two monitors which are larger than 27" and have a similar ppi as the Studio Display:
- Dell UltraSharp UP3218K, 31.5" for € 3489,99
- Apple Pro Display XDR 32" for € 4999,00
And if you include 27" there is only the old LG UltraFine 5K.

So for me there is no real alternative to the Studio Display. ?

Crazy that 8 years after the first release of the iMac 5K there is no real competition in the >27" and ~220 ppi market. ?
