@garnerx ,
@cube , thanks for your all’s help. I’ve reached a decision. Yesterday I used the display port cable and enabled FreeSync on the monitor and G-sync on the Nvidia GTX 2070. then I downloaded an Nvidia tool to test it (
https://www.nvidia.com/coolstuff/demos). The monitor seems to be happy at 50hz with this demo.
But then I cranked up Red Dead Redemption 2 and it looked flat and lifeless without HDR turned on. So I swapped back to the HDMI cable and with HDR, the magic came back. The difference is so stark, the environmental effects that HDR introduces are stunning, adding depth to the environment, seemingly turning 2D into a 3D environment.
In addition, I turned on a frame rate counter in game by way of Geforce Experience, and RDR2 runs consistently at about 35fps without any tearing or screen defects. For this monitor, HDR is a slam dunk and I’m very happy with the image it produces. Now could I run into a situation in the future where I face screen artifacts? I suppose so, but at the $350 I paid for this XG3220, I have no reason to complain. It’s got a lovely picture. ?
